Wilkes Sports Information Staff Promotes Schmoyer to Assistant Sports Information Director

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director Vince Scalzo has announced the promotion of Griffin Schmoyer to Assistant Sports Information Director.

"We are excited for Griffin to step into the full-time role as he has proven over the past year to be a valuable asset in our sports information office," said Scalzo. "His passion for our student-athletes and knowledge and skills of the sports information profession will enhance our student-athlete experience."

Schmoyer spent the 2023-24 season with Wilkes as a Sports Information Assistant, responsible for statistics, public address announcing, and more for the 23 Colonel athletic programs. He was also a frequent host of Colonel's Corner on the Wilkes athletics social media pages (@wilkescolonels) as well as a video editor.

"I could not be more excited to return to Wilkes as the Assistant Sports Information Director," Schmoyer said. "In my first year at Wilkes, it didn't take long for me to fall in love with the school and I cannot wait to help maintain and raise the standard of quality we have in the sports information office for all Colonel student-athletes."

Schmoyer graduated from Hofstra University in May 2023 with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism with a Sports Concentration. During his time at Hofstra, he produced sports radio broadcasts for 88.7 FM WRHU, as well as sports television broadcasts for Hofstra's HEAT Network. While producing for the HEAT Network in 2023, Schmoyer and his team won a Lawrence Herbert School of Communication "Herbie" Award for Best Nonfiction Episode of their show "Sports Beat."

The Coopersburg, Pa. native also spent time as an intern at Sirius XM and SportsNet New York helping to produce radio, television, and social media content.
