Wilkes men's soccer fall to Ramapo on the Road

MAHWAH, NJ – Wilkes University men's soccer fell in a back and forth battle against Ramapo College this afternoon with a score of 2-4. 

The game started with Ramapo quickly opening the scoring, recording two goals in the sixth and eighth minutes, both scored by Ponce Gianfranco. Wilkes responded in the 42nd minute with a goal by Landon Kelly (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus Senior High School) to get the Colonels on the board. In goal, Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made two saves on four shots on goal.

The Colonels opened the second half with high energy, tying the game in the 51st minute with a goal by Xavier Guerriero, assisted by Will Wagstaff (Allentown, PA/Parkland). Wilkes was not able to capitalize on their two other shots on goal during the second half and held the Roadrunners steady at 2-2 until the 72nd minute when Gianfranco tabbed his third of the match. The final goal of the match was scored by Ramapo's Kyle Allen to finalize the score at 4-2. 

In goal for the Colonels during the second half was Owen Heale (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), who made four saves on six shots on goal in his college debut. 

Wilkes will be back in action on Monday, September 2nd for their home opener in a 2 p.m. matchup against Ithaca College.
