Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls in Saturday Tri-Match
MIDDLETOWN - The Wilkes women's volleyball team fell in both of their matches on Saturday afternoon at Penn State Harrisburg in a tri-match.
Match 1 | Wilkes 0, PSU Harrisburg 3
The Colonels fell to PSU Harrisburg in three straight sets to open the tri-match. Wilkes dropped the first set 10-25, the second set 26-28 and the third set 19-25. PSU Harrisburg dominated in kills, assists, blocks, and aces, but Wilkes recorded 34 digs over Penn State's 30 throughout the match. Jenna Baron (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) led the team in kills with nine, Alexa Cassel (Mount Joy, PA/Lower Dauphin) recorded three aces and 22 assists and Emma Sanford (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) tallied 11 digs.
Match 2 | Wilkes 2, Rutgers Camden 3
In a back and forth battle between the Colonels and the Scarlet Raptors, Rutgers Camden ultimately came out on top after a hard fought five sets. The Scarlet Raptors took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18, Wilkes took sets three and four 26-24 and 25-21. In the deciding set, Rutgers pulled away with the victory with the final set score being 15-6. In this match, Sierra Hines (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) led in kills with 16, aces with 3 and blocks with four. Cassel led in assists with 48 and digs with 21.
The Colonels will be playing their home opener this Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. against Misericordia.
