Wilkes Field Hockey Suffers 5-2 Loss Against Oneonta
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Oneonta State raced out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter on way to a 5-2 non-conference victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes fell to 2-5 overall following the home defeat, while Oneota improved to 4-2 on the season.
Oneonta began the game scoring two goals within the first six minutes of the start of opening quarter including one off a penalty stroke.
Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area) answered back for the Colonels with a goal off an assist from
Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) with just under four minutes left in the frame. Oneonta pushed the lead to 4-1 with back-to-back goals at the 12:13 and 13:29 mark of the first.
Kellie Scott (Northport, ME/Kents Hill) added a goal in the second quarter off a pass from Hermanofski to make it 4-2 where the two teams would go to the half.
From there Wilkes was unable to find the back of the cage in the second half and the Red Dragons added one more insurance tally in the third frame to secure the road non-conference win.
Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) finished with a season-best 12 saves in goal for the Colonels.
Wilkes continues its home stretch on Saturday when the Colonels open Landmark Conference play against Goucher College at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
