Wilkes Women's Volleyball Bests Neumann 3-2 in Hard Fought Five Sets
WILKES-BARRE, PA - In a hard fought five set match, Wilkes women's volleyball defeated Neumann 3-2 on Wednesday night.
Wilkes put forth a very strong effort in a tough battle against the Knights to come out victorious in five. The Colonels dropped the first set 19-25, came back 25-22 for the second set, and fell 25-18 in the third set. Amping it up in the fourth set, Wilkes won 25-23 and solidified a victory in the fifth set in a close battle with the final score being 16-14.
Leading in points for the Colonels were Jenna Baron (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) with 13 kills and six aces, Sierra Hines (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) with six blocks, Alexa Cassel (Mount Joy, PA/Lower Dauphin) with 32 assists and Annalyse Santowasso (Middlesex, NJ/Rutgers Prep) with 21 digs. Wilkes out played Neumann in aces with 11 compared to their six, as well as in blocks with nine compared to five for the Knights.
The Colonels will face Penn State Altoona for their next matchup on Saturday, September 28. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
