WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's swimming team opened its 2025 dual meet schedule on Sunday afternoon falling 179-58 to visiting Misericordia University at the Catholic Youth Center (CYC).

Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest) took home second place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.21. Miller was also a second place finisher in the 100 freestyle at 52.95. Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) finished second in the 100 backstroke at 58.90. Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) earned second place in the 200 butterfly touching in at 2:18.87. Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) sprinted to second place in the 50 freestyle at 23.48.
 
The 200 freestyle relay team of Lewis, Dainty, Smargiassi and Miller earned second place with a time of 1:34.60, just .33 off the leaders.
 
Wilkes returns to the pool Saturday with a Landmark Conference tri-match at Lycoming College  with Juniata College starting at 1:00 p.m.
