Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep of Neumann with 3-0 Senior Day Victory
WILKES-BARRE, PA - A two game shutout completed the Wilkes women's ice hockey team's weekend sweep over Neumann, with another 3-0 win over the Knights on Saturday.
Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) got the Colonels on the board early, with a goal just three minutes into the game. Zingaro's goal was assisted by Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY). The Knights held the Colonels steady at one goal throughout the second period and for the majority of the third period until the Colonels struck again in the final minutes.
Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK/NAHA White) scored the second goal of the night, with assists from Zingaro and Ferry. Zingaro added her second goal and the Colonels third just a minute later with Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic) recording the assist.
Kaczorowski, Zingaro and Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) led the team in shots, recording five apiece. Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON), Ainsley Wescott (Saco, ME/), and Ferry followed with four shots each. Bouma and Chayce Hyndman (Mountain, ON) led in blocks with two each, and Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland), Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) and Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ) each recorded one. Ferry and Zingaro had the team high in plus minus with plus three and Ferry went 9-16 in the faceoff circle. In goal, Emma Swansburg (Shelburne, NS/Shelburne Regional) recorded a shutout, making eight saves for a 1.000 save percentage.
Following the game, Kaczorowski, Savanna Maxon (Anchorage, AK/Alaska All-Stars), Wescott, Swansburg and Laitinen were all celebrated as part of Senior Day festivities.
The Colonels will welcome Alvernia for a two game homestand beginning Friday, January 24, with the game set for 5 p.m.
