Wilkes Men's Basketball Falls in Road Clash at Catholic University

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Wilkes University men's basketball team were defeated at Catholic University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals 94-64 at Franny Murray Court.

Wilkes falls to 12-5 on the year and 6-4 in conference play, while Catholic improves to 14-3 with a 7-1 record against Landmark opponents.

The Colonels started the game hot, holding a 16-12 lead after the first six minutes of play. Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) and Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) were the hot hands in the opening action, each contributing five points.

Wilkes extended their lead to seven points with a 7-4 run that saw the scoreboard read 23-16 Colonels halfway through the first. However, the hosts fought back to tie the game at 29 late in the half and carried that momentum into a 12-3 run over the last three minutes to take a 41-32 lead into halftime.

The Colonel offense opened the second half with a 7-0 swing that immediately closed the Cardinal lead to one possession behind five points from Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey). Catholic responded with a 10-6 run to open the lead up to eight before a Colonel timeout with 15 left to play, up 51-45. The hosts extended their lead to double digits with a 7-2 run to force another Wilkes timeout and pulled away en route to the conference victory.

Lesko led the Colonels with 18 points and four rebounds. Argento was the other Colonel in double-digit scoring with 17 points and a team-high three assists.
The Colonels close out their two-game road trip on Wednesday, January 29 as they travel to face Lycoming College at 7:00 p.m.
