Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Draws With Alvernia 2-2
READING, PA - The Wilkes men's ice hockey team produced another 2-2 tie against the Golden Wolves on Saturday evening, with Alvernia taking the extra point in the shootout.
The game remained scoreless until the third period, with Alvernia's Edvin Robertsson lighting the lamp early in the third to give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Colonels responded with an unassisted goal by Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA) and another goal two minutes later by Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY), assisted by Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN) to give the Colonels a 2-1 advantage. The Golden Wolves tied the game in the final minutes of the third with the equalizer scored by Christian Heckman to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout with the Colonels taking five shots but not finding the back of the net, and the Golden Wolves scoring the winner on their fifth shot attempt.
Leading in shots for the Colonels was Jungwirth with seven, followed by Carlson with five.Jungwirth also led in blocks with three and Joe Johnson (Midland, MI) recorded two. Mason Vonk (West Olive, MI) led in plus minus with a plus two and Carlson went 11-19 in the faceoff circle. In goal, Duncan Rolleman (New Hamburg, ON) made 35 saves for a .946 save percentage.
The Colonels will be at home on Thursday, January 30, for a 6 p.m. game against Neumann.
