Wilkes Men's Volleyball Splits in Sunday Tri-Match

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes men's volleyball team split in their tri-match on Sunday, defeating Penn State Schuylkill in three sets and falling to John Jay College in three. 


Game 1 | Wilkes 3, Penn State Schuylkill 0

The Colonels had a strong first match of the day, defeating the Lions 3-0, going 25-11, 25-6, and 25-10. Leading the team in kills was Johnnathan Rocha (Wilkes Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) with seven, followed by Hunter Aiden with five. Trey Tellier (Sayville, NY/Sayville) led in aces with seven and Evanston Myers (Lake Winola, PA/Tunkhannock) led in blocks with four. James Brust (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) recorded the team high in assists with 16, followed by Joshua Conley (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) with six. Ryan McCory recorded six digs while Brust had four.

Wilkes outperformed the Lions across the board, with the Colonels recording 28 kills compared to their 12, 26 assists over the Lions' 12 and 23 digs compared to Penn State's 10. 

 

Game 2 | Wilkes 0, John Jay 3

Following their strong start, the Colonels dropped their second match of the day in three sets. Wilkes fell to the Bloodhounds 18-25, 19-25, and 21-25. 

Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) led the team in kills, recording 13 in the match, followed by Lucas Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) with six. Jacob Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) and Conley led in blocks, each recording three apiece. Conley also led in assists with 14, followed by Brust with eight. Shafer recorded the team high in digs with nine and Sam Winter (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) followed with seven. 

The Colonels outperformed the Bloodhounds in blocks, recording six to their five, and nearly outperformed in digs with 45 while John Jay had 47.

The Colonels will be hosting Widener this Tuesday, January 28, with the match set to begin at 7 p.m.
