Wilkes Basketball Prepared to Face Lycoming on Wednesday Night

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are prepared to take on Lycoming on Wednesday night. The women will host the Warriors while the men will be on the road. Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels dropped their most recent contest against Catholic, leaving them with a 12-5 overall record and a 6-4 conference record. 

Holding the top spot in the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 22.9 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is 12th in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 13.6 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.4 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in 11th with an average of 5.6 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is second in the Landmark with an average of 4.4 assists per game. Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) follows, averaging 2.7 assists per game and is ranked ninth in the conference. Lesko is third in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.2 per game and Argento leads the team in steals, averaging 1.5 per game.

The team averages 78.4 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked fourth in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .461 from the field, .325 on three point shot attempts and .666 from the free throw line. They lead the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 39.0 per game. 

The Warriors enter the game with a 2-15 overall record and are currently 1-9 in conference play. They are most recently coming off an 80-83 loss to Elizabethtown. 

Hayden Pardoe leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game. Isaiah Valentine follows with an average of 15.1 points per game. Pardoe also leads in rebounds with an average of 6.4 points per game and Valentine leads in assists with an average of 2.8 per game. Leading in blocked shots is Pardoe with an average of 0.9 per game and Connor Shanahan led the team in steals with an average of 1.4 per game. 

Offensively, the Warriors are seventh in the conference in scoring, averaging 71.5 points per game and are shooting .441 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .350 and from the free throw line they are shooting .693. In combined team rebounds, they are averaging 33.1 rebounds per game. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are currently 0-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play, most recently falling to No. 20 Catholic this past weekend.

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 14.8 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.5 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, with Evanosky at a 7.8 rebound average per game and Matos at 7.2, leaving them at fourth and seventh in the conference. Evanosky is 12th in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) follows, with an average of 0.6 blocks per game. Evanosky is also second in the conference in steals with an average of 3.5 per game.
