Wilkes Women's Swimming and Diving Splits Opening Tri-Meet at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Wilkes University women's swimming and diving team split its opening tri-meet against the Marywood University Pacers and King's College Monarchs on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels lost to Marywood 172.5-101.5 but defeated King's comfortably 174-58.

Final Results

First-year Emma Miller (Wyoming, PA/Dallas) made program history as she set the first Colonel record in the one-meter diving with a score of 237.70, beating out two Marywood divers for first place.

Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) began her junior season with two first place times in the 50 yard freestyle (26.82) and 100 yard freestyle (59.32), and finished second in the 200 yard medley relay along with Izzy Sparaco (Macungie, PA/), Pearl Hunter (York, PA/Northeastern) and Lea McCormick (Northumberland, PA/Shiekellamy) as well as second in the 200 IM.

McCormick also earned a silver medal in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly with times of 2:15.41 and 51.29, respectively. Sparaco took second place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:08.60), and two third place finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle (13:15.66) and 100 yard butterfly (52.03).

Grace Cobb (Athens, PA/Athens Area) earned the only other first place finish for the Colonels, doing so in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a 12:51.65. In her three other events she earned two other top three finishes, first coming in second in the 500 yard freestyle (6:23.09), and then finishing third in the 200 yard freestyle relay alongside Meghan Sandt (Easton, PA/Easton Area), Harper Wentzel (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area) and Brynn Ullerich (Omaha, NE/Marian).

The Colonels return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 18 for their first Landmark Conference meet against the Moravian University Greyhounds. The meet begins at 1 p.m. at the Wyoming Catholic Youth Center.
