Wilkes Field Hockey Falls 2-0 at Goucher
TOWSON, MD – Host Goucher College scored one goal in the first half, then added an insurance tally late in the fourth quarter on way to a 2-0 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
Wilkes slipped to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in league games following the road defeat. Goucher improved to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference games.
Madison Zubo scored the first Goucher goal at 28:12 when she scored off a penalty corner and assist from Angelena Holmes.
The game went scoreless for the next 28 minutes of play before Holmes notched an insurance strike with 3:58 left in the game.
Goucher held a 15-6 shot advantage with eight coming on goal. The Gophers also finished with 12 penalty corners to Wilkes' 10 attempts.
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) finished with five saves in the Colonels cage. Katie Bloom made three saves to earn the shutout win for Goucher.
Wilkes continues Landmark play on Wednesday when the Colonels host the University of Scranton at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
