Wilkes Men's Soccer Suffers Setback at Juniata
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team continued Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling to Juniata College 1-0 at Gibbel Stadium.
Wilkes falls to 1-7-3 on the year and 0-1-1 in Landmark play, while Juniata improves to 6-2-4 overall and 2-0-1 against conference opponents.
The Colonels only managed one shot in the first half off the foot of
Will Wagstaff (Allentown, PA/Parkland), but the defense held firm to head into the break scoreless. In goal,
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made three saves in the first 45 minutes.
Jase Colino broke the deadlock for the Eagles in the 53
rd minute, one of nine shots by the hosts in the second half. Wilkes put up four shots with one on goal in the fourth, a strike by
Elijah Emedoh-Kaba (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) saved by Maxwell Mattioni. Conti doubled his save total from the first half with six in the second half.
Kaba led Wilkes with the lone shot on goal, with Conti totaling nine saves in the loss.
Jayden Gaynor led Juniata with four shots on goal, while Colino scored the lone goal of the game. Mattioni made one save.
The Colonels return to action on Tuesday, October 7 as they host Susquehanna University at Bruggeworth Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
