Wilkes Men's Basketball Cruises to Win Over Keystone College
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's basketball team put on a dominant first-half performance, scoring 60 points en route to a 97-65 win over Keystone College at the Marts Center Saturday evening.
Wilkes improves to 3-0 on the young season, while Keystone falls to 1-3.
Mason Fedor (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) opened the scoring on the day, followed by a
Colin Ackerman (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) three-pointer to put Wilkes up 5-2 early. A 25-10 scoring run over the first ten minutes of action saw Wilkes go up 30-12, led by
Eli Becker (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) with seven points. The Colonels continued the offensive onslaught to a 60-31 lead at halftime, punctuated by a buzzer-beating three by Issac Thomas. Wilkes was clinical from the free-throw line in the first 20 minutes, going 13-16 in the half.
Wilkes' lead wasn't threatened in the second half, with the lead never going under 20 points. With three minutes left to play, head coach
Izzi Metz emptied the bench as Wilkes went on to win comfortably 97-65. First years
Ethan Sheffey (Lothian, MD/Southern) and
Matt Remias (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) saw the floor for the first time, collecting their first assist and first points respectively.
Ackerman led the team with 19 points, grabbing four boards and four assists as well.
Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) put up a double-double with 18 points and a team-high 12 rebounds with five assists and three steals. Off the bench,
Brendan Styer (Chesterbrook, PA/Conestoga) led the team with six assists. Becker,
Daniel Santaniello (Roaring Brook Twp., PA/Scranton Prep) and
Antonio Brittain (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) also all reached double-digit scoring on the day.
Ahmodrion Jones led Keystone with 18 points. Josh Brown followed closely with 16 points, leading the Giants in rebounds (6) and assists (3).
The Colonels now prepare for their first taste of Landmark Conference competition, as they close out a four-game homestand against Lycoming College on Wednesday, November 19
th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
