BALTIMORE, Md. - The Wilkes University men's swimming team defeated the Goucher College Gophers 159-32 Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated at the halfway point of the regular season.

The Colonels improve to 6-0 this season overall and 2-0 in the Landmark, while the Gophers fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the Landmark.
The Colonels started the meet by winning the 400 yard medley relay with a 4:01.11 thanks to the team of Max Wilson, Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), and DJ Hammond (Stone Mountain, GA/Stephenson). That was only the beginning as Wilkes took the top spot in every event except for the 200 yard butterfly.
Piotrowski and Max Johnson (Clarksburg, MD/Clarksburg) then took the first and second place spots in the 1,000 yard freestyle, with Johnson beating out his teammate with a 10:53.38 time.Â
The Colonels swept the podium in the next three events. It started in the 200 yard freestyle with Jack DeLuca (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) winning over Wilson and Josh Leonard (Athens, PA/Athens Area) with a time of 1:58.88. Next was the 50 yard freestyle where Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) took the top spot (23.25), followed by Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly) in second place, and Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest) in third place. Then finally in the 400 yard IM, Tobias Misinay (Russell, KY/Pulaski County) won gold with a 4:42.54 with Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) and Caleb Keener (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) taking second and third place, respectively.Â
Lewis continued his day by winning the 100 yard freestyle with a 53.06, followed by Brady Rushton (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) in second (57.27) and Keener in third (57.69). Afterwards, Wilson and Miller took the top two spots in the 200 yard backstroke as Wilson finished with a 2:10.92 and Miller with a 2:21.38.
Misinay earned another first place finish by winning the 500 yard freestyle with a 5:18.85, and then Piotrowski won his first individual event by finishing first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:28.40.
The Colonels capped off the meet with both their A and B team earning the top two spots in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team of Misinay, Miller, Johnson, and Lewis finished first with a time of 3:31.29, and the team of Hammond, Keener, Rushton, and Leonard finished second with a time of 3:48.20.
Next up for Wilkes is the Electric City Invite hosted by Marywood University from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23. The first day of the invite starts on Friday at 5 p.m.
