Wilkes Women's Swimming and Diving Tied for Third After Day Two of Electric City Invitational

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Wilkes University Women's swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the Electric City Invitational Saturday morning, and are currently tied for third place going into the final day.

Lock Haven remains in first place with 642 points, and Marywood remains in second place with 584 points. Both Wilkes and SUNY Oneonta have 326 points and are tied for third, while Lycoming rounds out the top five with 211 points. Cedar Crest has 152 points to stay in sixth place, and King's remains in seventh place with 55 points.

The 500 yard freestyle was the first event of the day, and both Grace Cobb (Athens, PA/Athens Area) and Meghan Sandt (Easton, PA/Easton Area) earned top ten finishes for Wilkes. Cobb placed ninth with a 6:08.54, and Sandt placed 10th with a 6:09.77.

Lea McCormick (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy) then had a strong showing in the 200 yard IM by taking second place with a time of 2:26.57 and earned 17 points for the Colonels. Next up was the 50 yard freestyle, and Pearl Hunter (York, PA/Northeastern) earned a ninth place finish (27.18) to give the team nine more points. 

The final event of the second session was the 400 yard medley relay, and Wilkes took home a third and ninth place finish from their two teams. The team of McCormick, Izzy Sparaco (Macungie, PA/Emmaus), Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley), and Brynn Ullerich (Omaha, NE/Marian) earned bronze with a 4:24.71, and the team of Sandt, Hunter, Cobb, and Alyssa Rounsaville (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) finished ninth with a 5:05.76.

The third session began with the 400 yard IM, and Burlew earned a second place finish (5:10.99) for 17 points. In the 100 yard butterfly, McCormick and Ullerich finished in fourth and fifth place respectively as McCormick put up a 1:07.09 time and Ullerich posted a 1:07.18.

The last three events of day two were the 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, and the 100 yard backstroke. Sandt finished ninth in the 200 freestyle with a 2:17.36, Burlew finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:15.42, and Ullerich finished second in the 100 backstroke with a 1:06.78.

The final day of the Electric City Invitation begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the Colonels.
