Wilkes Women's Basketball Bested at Catholic
 
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Wilkes women's basketball team fell to Catholic University on Saturday afternoon, dropping the contest to the Cardinals 83-44 at Franny Murray Court in Landmark Conference play.

Wilkes falls to 2-6 overall, still in search of their first conference win of the year at 0-4. Catholic improves to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in Landmark play.

The Cardinals scored three baskets to take the early 6-0 lead. Addison Place (Dover, PA/Northern York) got the Colonels on the board, followed by a jumper by Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) to cut the lead to 6-4. Place and Matos led the Colonels in the quarter with four points each, but Catholic took a 22-10 lead into the second quarter. In the second, the Cardinals exploded for 29 points, taking a 51-19 lead into halftime.

Wilkes came out of halftime with their highest scoring quarter of the game, putting up 15 points led by four points from Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and three from Matos and Reagan Holden (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Wilkes-Barre Area). Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to cut the deficit, and the Colonels fell to the Cardinals 83-44 at the final buzzer.

Maros and Warren led the team with 13 points and seven rebounds each, both team-highs. Matos led the team in assists with five.

Carly Catania led Catholic with 13 points, while Lauren Kraft led the team in rebounds with seven. Amelia Kennedy led the hosts with five assists and four steals.

Wilkes will head to Puerto Rico for their next contest, a matchup with Kenyon College on Sunday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m.
