Wilkes Women's Basketball Fall to Goucher in Final Game of the Season
WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's basketball team concluded their season on Saturday, recording their highest point total of the season but fell short to Goucher 82-103.
The Colonels took an early lead in the first quarter and continued to remain level with the Gophers throughout the first, but were unable to maintain it following the first quarter. Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) led the team in scoring, recording 42 points during the game. Matos also led in rebounds with 11, giving her a double-double. Matos also recorded the team high in assists with two and Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) led in steals with three and recorded one block along with Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville). Warren also recorded a double-double with 17 total points and 10 rebounds and also shot 6-13 from the field while Matos was 3-6 on three point shot attempts and 9-12 from the free throw line.
Wilkes recorded 46 points in the paint, 11 points off turnovers, 20 second chance points, 12 fast break points, and 11 bench points. Throughout the game, the Colonels shot 43.8% from the field, 25.0% on three point shot attempts, and 60.0% from the free throw line. Wilkes concluded its season going 0-25 overall and 0-18 in conference play.
