Wilkes Men's Volleyball Falls at Widener in Four Sets
CHESTER, PA – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Widener University in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Widener took the match by scores of 25-14, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-22.
Wilkes fell to 7-13 overall following the road defeat while Widener improved to 11-4 overall on the season.
Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Colonels stormed back and took the third set 25-22. Wilkes trailed by as many as four points early in the set but battled back thanks to kills from
Aidan Hunter (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson),
Aaron Ladd (Souderton, PA/Pennridge) and
Lucas Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central).
Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) gave the Colonels a 21-19 lead before a kill from Hunter and another by Shafer pushed the lead to 24-22. Shafer finished off the set win with a service ace.
Shafer led the Wilkes attack with 16 kills and four aces. L. Mages followed with eight kills.
James Brust (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) finished with a team-best 37 assists.
Wilkes returns to the court Friday with a road match at Buffalo State set for 6:00 p.m.
