Wilkes Men's Volleyball Drops Matches Against Southern Virginia and Widener 

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes men's volleyball team fell to No. 2 ranked Southern Virginia as well as Widener in a home tri-match on Saturday. 

 

Game 1 | Wilkes 0 , Southern Virginia 3

The Colonels dropped their match against Southern Virginia, falling 25-8 in the first set, 25-20 in the second set and 25-10 in the third set.

Lucas Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) led in kills in the Colonels first match of the day with six, while Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) followed with five. Shafer and Jacob Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) recorded one block and Josh Conley led in assists with 11. Alex Derk (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) recorded the team high in digs with four, followed by Shafer with three and Sam Winter (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central)s with two. The Colonels totaled 15 kills and 53 total attacks throughout the match. 
 

Game 2 | Wilkes 2, Widener 3

In their second meeting of the season, Wilkes narrowly fell to Widener, taking the Pride to five sets. Wilkes took the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-20, but Widener responded with 25-18, 25-20 and 15-13 wins in the following three sets to secure the victory. 

Shafer led in kills with 20, along with Aaron Ladd (Souderton, PA/Pennridge) who recorded 10. Jacob Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) had the team high in assists with five and Conley recorded 38 assists throughout the match. Shafer tallied 12 digs while Ladd had 10 and Ryan McCorry (Tuckerton, NJ/Pinelands) recorded seven. 

The Colonels totaled 54 kills and 133 total attacks while outperforming Widener in aces with seven compared to their five as well as in blocks with 13 over the Pride's five. 

The Colonels will be on the road for their next match on Tuesday, February 11, to take on Neumann. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
