Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Shutout Alvernia 6-0 in MAC Semifinals
WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes men's ice hockey team are headed to the MAC finals next Saturday following a 6-0 victory over Alvernia today at the Toyota Sportsplex.
Two goals in three periods solidified the Colonels' spot in the MAC finals today. Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA) opened the scoring for the Colonels in the first period along with Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY) who netted a power play goal following a Colonel faceoff win. Max Cocchi (Ludlow, MA) and Lowe recorded goals in the second period within seconds of each other and Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ) scored the second power play goal of the night in the third period following a shot by Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN), before Leyton Pettypiece (Rochester, MI) lit the lamp for Wilkes' sixth goal of the game coming after a shot by Cam Perez (West Hartford, CT).
Picking up assists on the goal tonight were Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI), Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO), Miles Harrington (McDonough, GA), Daniel Nau (Wake Forest, NC), Swain, Cocchi, Jungwirth, Luke Dobles (Spencerport, NY) and Jake Kloss (Hershey, PA).
Leading in shots for the Colonels was Lowe with 7, followed by Swain and Roginski with five. Carlson, Nate Terski (North Grafton, MA) and Mason Vonk (West Olive, MI) each recorded a team high of two blocks and Dobles ended the night with the highest plus minus at a plus four. Jordan went 8-20 from the faceoff circle and Cocchi was 19-38. In goal, Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD) recorded his second shutout of the year, totaling 39 saves on the night.
The Colonels will be hosting Stevenson for the MAC Championship Finals next Saturday, March 8.
