Wilkes Men's Tennis Falls 5-2 to Open Spring Break Play
HILTON HEAD, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Johnson and Wales University in its first match of its spring break trip on Sunday afternoon.
With the setback Wilkes dropped to 2-1 in dual matches on the season.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead after doubles play as the teams of No. 1
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) and
Otarhe Okoh (Shakopee, MN/Shakopee) scored a 6-4 win and No. 2
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) won 6-2.
Johnson and Wales then clinched the match with wins at No. 1 through No. 4 and No. 6, with four coming in straight sets. Frey was the lone singles winner for the Colonels taking his No. 5 match by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Wilkes is back on the court tomorrow (Monday) with a match against Buena Vista University at 11:30 a.m.
