Wilkes Women's Tennis Scores 6-1 Win to Open Spring Break Play
HILTON HEAD, SC – The Wilkes University women's tennis team opened spring break play with a 6-1 victory over Johnson and Wales University on Sunday afternoon.
Wilkes improved its dual match record to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
The Colonels won all three doubles flights to earn the one team point heading into singles play. The duo of
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) and
Sydney Farmer (Lacey Township, NJ/Lacey Township) claimed a 6-3 win at No. 1,
Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) and
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) won 6-2 at No. 2 and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) and
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) posted a 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 3.
In singles play, No. 1 Amerise went 6-0, 6-0 to push the lead to 2-0. Spaeth won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Edmond took a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 3. Farmer clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Wilkes is back on the court tomorrow (Monday) with a match against Buena Vista University at 11:30 a.m.
