Juniata Storms Past Wilkes Women's Lacrosse in Landmark Play

EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Juniata College stormed out to a 17-3 lead at the break and never looked back on way to a 23-4 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes slipped to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in Landmark games following the home defeat. Juniata recorded its first conference victory standing 1-1 and moved to 3-6 overall on the year.

After Juniata took a quick 2-0 lead, Wilkes responded with a goal from Morgan Foytack (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) off an assist from Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) to cut the advantage in half with 9:12 left in the first quarter.

The Colonels second goal came with 1:51 left in the first quarter as Emily Jackson (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) scored off a helper from Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) to make it 6-2 Juniata. Pedana added her first goal of the game when she found the back of the net with 1:18 left in the opening stanza.

From there the Eagles rattled off 11 straight goals to take the big advantage at the half.

Pedana closed the Wilkes scoring in the third with a behind-the-back goal off an assist from Foytack with 8:21 on the clock.

Juniata held a 46-9 shot advantage while claiming 24 ground balls to Wilkes' 18. The Colonels struggled to clear the ball converting only 9-for-23 on attempts.

Brooklynn Donia (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) started and played 12:41 in net for Wilkes making four saves. Rissa Brazeau (Timmins, ON) entered in relief making a season-best 13 saves in just over 47 minutes in goal.
