Wilkes Baseball Finishes Weekend Series with Loss at Catholic
HANOVER, Md. – The Wilkes University baseball team concluded their weekend series against Catholic University on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals 9-0 at Joe Cannon Stadium in Landmark Conference action.
Wilkes falls to 13-8 overall and 7-3 in Landmark play, while Catholic improves to 13-10 with a 6-4 record against conference opponents.
The hosts took the lead in the bottom of the first with a single to shortstop, and doubled the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. While Wilkes struggled to find offense, the Cardinals added seven more runs over the final four innings to take a 9-0 win.
Riley Jagger (Hop Bottom, PA/Mountain View) (2-1) took the loss, going five innings allowing two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Nathan Loch (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley),
Michael Sabella (Cornelius, NC/Hough), and
Mark Nazar (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) were the lone Colonels with hits, with Loch hitting a double.
Sam Fairhurst pitched 8.1 innings allowing three hits while striking out 17. Chase Falcon led Catholic with three hits and two RBIs.
The Colonels remain on the road for their next contest, a mid-week tilt at the University of Scranton on Tuesday, April 1 at 4:30 p.m.
