Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Falls 15-9 to Lebanon Valley
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Lebanon Valley College outscored the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team 7-2 over the final two quarters on way to a 15-9 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes falls to 1-4 overall following the home defeat, while Lebanon Valley improves to 3-2 overall on the season.
Wilkes began the scoring with three straight goals as
Jackson Casper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) found the back of the net off an assist from
Oscar Cline (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) at 13:28.
Stone Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) made it 2-0 Colonels scoring off another helper from Cline just one minute later.
Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) finished off the three-goal start with a strike off an assist from
Austin Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) with 9:07 left in the first quarter.
Lebanon Valley answered back with two consecutive goals to cut the lead to 3-2 before a man-up tally from
Anthony DelDuca (Westchester, NY/Westlake) made it 4-2 after one quarter thanks to another helper from A. Sosnovik.
Lebanon Valley began the second frame with back-to-back goals to tie the game at four with 11:49 left until the half. Casper added his second goal of the contest and the brother-to-brother combination of A. Sosnovik from S. Sosnovik gave the Colonels the lead back at 6-4 with 7:27 on the clock.
Hartka notched his second tally of the game to push the advantage to 7-4 before LVC scored the final four goals of the quarter to take an 8-7 lead at the break.
LVC scored first in the third quarter before Casper completed his hat trick with as assist from A. Sosnovik with 12:18 left in the frame.
From there, LVC rattled off six unanswered goals to take a 15-8 lead with 7:43 left in the fourth quarter. A. Sosnovik notched the final tally for the Colonels with 5:24 left in the game.
Lebanon Valley held a 50-23 shot advantage while causing 30 Colonel turnovers. The Flying Dutchmen were also efficient clearing the ball finishing 17-for-20.
A. Sosnovik led the Colonels attack with six points on two goals and four helpers. LVC's Jake Bollinger led all scorers with seven points on five goals and two assists.
Caleb Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) finished with 13 save sin net for Wilkes while Kellen Markley made nine stops for LVC.
The Colonels return to action Wednesday with a road matchup at cross-town rival King's College at 7:00 p.m.
