Wilkes Women's Volleyball Continues Win Streak With 3-1 Win Over Penn College

WILKES-BARRE – The Colonels continued their win streak with a 3-1 win over the Wildcats of Penn College on Tuesday night at the Marts Center.

Wilkes improves to a 7-3 overall record while the Wildcats fall to 1-11.

Wilkes started set one going point for point with Penn College all the way to a score of 14-14, but the Wildcats were able to find their groove and pull ahead. Wilkes tried to come back, but with a kill from the Wildcats and an error from Wilkes, Penn College was able to take set one 25-20.

In set two, the Colonels went on the attack and jumped to an early 7-4 lead. Penn College attempted to claw back, but Wilkes responded by going on a 13-3 run to put the set at 20-7. Ally Sheridan (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area) added two kills in the run with Ava Wahlers (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) and Kendra Kalp (Somerset, PA/Rockwood) each adding one kill. Wilkes completed the set only allowing two more points for a final score 25-9

Wilkes quickly pulled ahead to a 7-1 lead in set three and was able to keep the upper hand to take the set with ease 25-14. The Colonels continued the momentum into set four as they got up 3-0 with Kalp contributing two kills. Penn College came back to get within one point of Wilkes, but the Colonels never surrendered the lead. The navy and gold secured the win with a 4-0 run to finalize the match at 25-19.

The Colonels offense dominated the court over Penn College with an attack percentage of .202 to .065. Sheridan led the offense with 11 kills with Kalp earning 8 and Abby Dornblaser (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) close behind with 7. Rachael Anderson (Canmore, AB/West Island College) led defense with 31 assists and Annalyse Santowasso (Middlesex, NJ/Rutgers Prep) and Kalp both earned 14 digs on the night.

The Colonels hit the road for their next game, as they travel to Albright College to face the Lions on Sept. 18 at 7:00p.m.
