EDWARDSVILLE – With the match tied at one and under ten minutes left to play, visiting Ursinus College found the back of the net at the 81:50 mark to earn a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Wilkes University men's soccer team Tuesday night at Bruggeworth Field.
Wilkes slipped to 1-5-2 overall following the home defeat. Ursinus improved to 2-3-2 overall after the victory.
Wilkes wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead in front of a big crowd at Bruggeworth Field when
Kendall Heck (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area High School) scored unassisted 8:51 into the first half. The Colonels defense would keep the advantage at the break.
Ursinus answered early in the second half as Eliot Bowen notched a goal at 59:49 tying the game at one.
The teams traded chances over the next 20 minutes of back-and-forth play before Matthew Lohr found the back of the net for the game-winner with less than nine minutes remaining in the contest.
Ursinus held a slim 17-13 (8-5 shots on goal) shot advantage throughout while garnering seven corner kicks to Wilkes' four corner chances.
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Colonels finishing with six saves on the night.
Wilkes is back on the pitch Saturday when the Colonels begin Landmark Conference play with a home match against Elizabethtown College starting at 3:30 p.m.
