Wilkes Women's Swimming and Diving Splits Home Tri-Meet
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes women's swimming and diving team split their home tri-meet against the University of Scranton and Lebanon Valley College. The blue and gold took down the the Flying Dutchmen 145-66, but fell to the Royals 181- 58.
After today's meet, the Colonels moved to a 5-5 overall record and 2-1 in the Landmark conference, while the Royals improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in conference, and Lebanon Valley College fell to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
The Colonels opened the meet finishing third in the 200-yard medley where
Izzy Sparaco (Macungie, PA/Emmaus), Emily Pironti,
Lea McCormick (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy), and
Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) swam a time of 2:02.82.
Emma Miller (Wyoming, PA/Dallas) was the meet's lone first-place finisher, winning the one-meter dive with an NCAA regional qualifying score of 263.05 and the three-meter dive with a 227.85.
Lea McCormick (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy) also found a podium position with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.70, while
Pearl Hunter (York, PA/Northeastern) came in just behind with a time of 1:01.93.
Grace Cobb (Athens, PA/Athens Area) and
Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) each posted a third-place finish in their respective events, where Cobb swam a 12:43.58 in the 1000-yard freestyle, and Burlew finished with a 1:19.27 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The return to action on January 17, where they travel to Huntingdon for a tri-meet against the Juniata Eagles and the Lycoming Warriors at 1:00 p.m.
