Women’s Ice Hockey Grabs Shutout Win Over Neumann


ASTON, Pa. – The Wilkes University Women's Ice Hockey team were back on the ice Friday night, defeating Neumann University 6-0 on the road, clinching a 10th-straight victory in conference play. 

Led by a hat trick from Nina Hudakova (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School), a three-point night from Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) and a shutout from Audrey Milne (London, ON), the Colonels improved to 12-1-1 (10-1-0 MAC), while Neumann's record fell to 5-10-0 (3-8-0 MAC).

Wilkes took the lead at 9:41 when Hudakova lit the lamp to give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage. Bouchard and Carissa Haan provided the assists as the Colonels went into the first intermission with the lead. 

Hudakova scored once more at 7:31 into the middle period with Bouchard providing another primary assist on the play that made it 2-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold. Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT) found twine with 32 seconds left in the period to make it 3-0 going into the second break. 

Just over a minute-and-a-half into the third period, Hudakova clinched the hat trick, her second in as many games, and the fifth in program history. Abby Buch notched her second assist of the game on the play. 

Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) scored seven minutes later to make it 5-0, then Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) clinched the three-point night with a tally to make it 6-0 at 11:06. Hudakova and Drew Hayhurst (Breckenridge, CO/New Hampton School) notched the two assists on the play. 

For the Colonels, Milne recorded seven saves in the shutout win. Hudakova and Hannah Franz (North Bay, ON/) each recorded five shots on goal, leading the Colonels in that category.

In goal for Neumann, Noelle Woodard started between the pipes, recording 29 saves on 35 shots. Brook Adams entered in relief, stopping all nine shots she faced. Kaila Booth and Sammie Haun had two shots on goal each, leading the Knights. 

The Colonels return to action tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 17 to face off against Neumann once again. Puck drop against the Knights is slated for 2 p.m. in Aston, Pa.
