Wilkes Men's Wrestling Takes 8th Place at Will Abele Invitational
 
COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University wrestling team finished in eighth place at the 2026 Will Abele Invitational hosted by Ursinus College Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels collected 70 total team points with seven Colonels earning top-eight finishes. Host Ursinus took home first place at the event.
 
James Sloan (Hewitt, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) was a third place finisher at 149-pounds for Wilkes. Sloan began the tournament with a 5-4 decision win before moving into the semifinals after a 17-6 major decision in the quarterfinals. After dropping a tough 4-1 decision in the semifinals, Sloan settled for third place after cruising to a 15-0 technical fall in 5:20 in the third place bout.
 
At 149-pounds Jacob Bettencourt (Dighton, MA/Bristol Plymouth) claimed fifth place going 6-1 on the day. After winning his opening round match 13-4, Bettencourt fell 16-5 before wrestling back in the consolations with three straight victories including back-to-back falls to reach the fifth place bout. There Bettencourt won 6-5 over Kyle Meyer of Alfred State with a late third period takedown pushing him over for the victory.
 
James Weikel (Frackville, PA/North Schuylkill) was one of two placers at 165-pounds earning fifth place. Weikel began with a fall in 1:46 before falling in the quarterfinals by pin fall. He wrestled back with three straight falls including a pin of Aidan Kammar of Shenandoah University in just 53 seconds in the fifth place bout.
 
Other top-eight finishers included Andrew Perez (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) (7th/285), Noah Rosa (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) (8th/133), Brody Bogues (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) (8th/141) and Sam Keppel (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) (8th/165).
