Wilkes Men’s Basketball Falls in Conference Matchup Against Lycoming


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's basketball team was back on the floor against Lycoming College on Wednesday night, falling 72-55 in Landmark Conference action. 

The Colonels fell to 11-7 (6-5 Landmark), while Lycoming picked up their first conference win of the 2025-26 season, improving to 5-13 (1-10 Landmark).

The Colonels began the first half with a 7-2 run featuring two layups from Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey). From there, The Warriors scored seven unanswered points to take a 9-7 lead on home court. 

Eli Becker (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made a free throw then a layup to give the Colonels a 10-9 lead, turning the game into a back-and-forth contest. With 7:57 left on the clock in the first half, the two sides were tied up at 16, with Issac Thomas getting two on a layup. 

Once Lycoming regained the lead 18 seconds later, they never gave it up. By halftime, the Colonels trailed by six, looking for a spark to retake the lead. 

The Warriors began the second half with four straight baskets, pushing their lead to 15 points. The Colonels' shooters  struggled in the second half, unable to push a comeback into the cards. 

Wilkes made it a nine points contest with 4:25 left in the second half, but the Warriors would make a late surge, finishing on a 12-5 run.

Argento led the Colonels with 15 points, while Becker and Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) each had 12 in the loss. Becker also recorded 11 rebounds, finishing with a double-double. Overall, Wilkes shot 18-60 from the field, while just 3-24 from the three point line. 

For Lycoming, Hayden Pardoe and Isaiah Valentine each recorded 17 points. The Warriors shot 17-59 from the field, and recorded nine three-pointers on 20 attempts. 

The Colonels return to home court this Saturday, Jan. 31 with a Landmark Conference matchup against Catholic University. Tip-off against the Cardinals is set for 2 p.m. from the Marts Center.
