Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Clinches MAC Postseason Berth with Overtime Win at Stevenson

STEVENSON, Md. - The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team secured a MAC postseason berth with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Stevenson University Mustangs Saturday afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 17-1-1 (15-1-0 MAC) in the regular season, while the Mustangs fall to 3-15-1 (3-11-1 MAC). The team is now on an eight-game win streak and hasn't lost since Nov. 14.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first period thanks to great team defense and goaltending from Audrey Milne (London, ON) and Emily Carson. The scoreless tie wouldn't be broken until the second period, when Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) finally got a shot past Carson to make it 1-0 Wilkes at the 12:35 mark.

Just two minutes later, Ng struck again with another goal to make it 2-0, and that score held going into the third period. In the third period, Wilkes held Stevenson in check for most of the way until an interference penalty put the Mustangs on the power play with 3:35 left to play.

It took just two seconds for the Mustangs to score on the power play. Emma DeMan won the faceoff and Kayedi Spone fired a quick shot past Milne to make it 2-1. When Stevenson pulled Carson off the ice for an extra attacker with 2:36 left, Kiana Baker came through with the game-tying goal to force overtime.

In overtime, the Colonels ended it quickly as Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) set up Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY/) for the game-winning goal after just 41 seconds.

For the game, Wilkes outshot Stevenson 47-21 but went 0-5 on the power play, while the Mustangs went 1-4 on the power play. In addition to the game-winning goal, Ferry also finished with an assist and led the team in shots with nine. Ng led the team with two goals, while Bouchard, Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT), and Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ/) each had one assist.

The Colonels return to the Toyota SportsPlex for their next game against Neumann University on Friday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.
