Wilkes Women's Swimming and Diving Finishes Regular Season With Loss to Catholic

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes University women's swimming and diving team went up against Catholic University for their final meet of the regular season, falling to the Cardinals 181-87 Saturday afternoon at the Wyoming Catholic Youth Center.

The Colonels finish the regular season with a 6-7 record (3-3 Landmark), while the Cardinals finish their regular season with a 5-3 record (3-1 Landmark).

The star of the afternoon was first-year diver Emma Miller (Wyoming, PA/Dallas). She posted her second NCAA Regional qualifying score in the 1-meter dive with a 438.50 This means that she has officially qualified for the NCAA Regionals that take place later this year after the Landmark Conference Championships.

She also competed in the 3-meter dive and finished with the second-best score of the day with a 208.40. Her teammate Pearl Hunter (York, PA/Northeastern) took the top spot in the 3-meter dive with a 261.20, her first career win in that event.

The final first place finish for Wilkes came in the 100 yard freestyle, when Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) came out on top with a final time of 58.30.

Other notable finishes include two second place finishes from Izzy Sparaco (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) in the 100 backstroke with a 1:06.18, and the 200 yard backstroke with a 2:29.08. Lea McCormick (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy) also earned a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:57.45, and then finished third in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:19.26.

Next up for the Colonels is the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Loyola University in Baltimore. It's a four-day event lasting from Feb. 12-15.
