TOWSON, Md. – Wilkes women's basketball senior guard Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance in the team's games over winter break, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

This marks Matos' first Landmark Athlete of the Week selection of her career, as well as the first for the program since joining the conference.

Matos averaged 18.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game across three games, eclipsing the 1,000-career point milestone against Eastern University on Saturday.

She started the stretch hot, dropping a season-best 24 points as well as eight rebounds against Kenyon College in Puerto Rico on December 28^th. She led the team in scoring again against WestConn, finishing with 14. After the new year, she dropped 16 against Eastern while collecting 12 rebounds, her first double-double of the season.

Matos becomes the thirteenth Colonel to reach the 1,000-point mark and the first since 2015. She sits third in the Landmark Conference in scoring averaging 14.5 points per game.
