Lycoming struck on its opening possession when quarterback Joe Lyons III connected with receiver Jared Zimmerman for an 18-yard touchdown, giving the Warriors a 7–0 lead less than five minutes in. Wilkes opening drive started with quarterback Trey Dogmanits (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) going deep and finding receiver Juju Fears (Easton, PA/Easton Area) for a 38-yard catch to the Lycoming 32-yard line. Wilkes opted to leave out the offense on fourth down and two, but a false start pushed it back five yards, and the Colonels came up empty. Defensive lineman Cohen Creswell (Winchester, VA/Millbrook) recorded his sixth sack of the season on Lycoming's next possession, forcing a Warriors punt and giving the Colonels possession at the Lycoming 47-yard line. The Colonels unfortunately went three-and-out on their next two possessions, and Lycoming held a 7–0 lead after one. Lycoming started the second quarter with Lyons finding Zimmerman again, this time from 29 yards out, to stretch its lead to 14–0 with 10:30 remaining in the first half. Lycoming carried the momentum when its defense forced a fumble later in the quarter. The Colonels got a chance at a two-minute drill with 1:53 left, but could only reach the Lycoming 21-yard line before halftime, facing a 14–0 deficit heading into the locker room. The Colonels' defense started the second half with a big play made by a pair of first-years. With Lycoming in Wilkes territory, defensive lineman Sydney Catlett III had a strip-sack that was recovered by defensive lineman Jaraiya Jean (Neptune, NJ/Neptune). The Colonels capitalized on the turnover, marching down the field on a 15-play drive that chewed nearly eight minutes off the clock. Running back Nigel Linton (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) finished the drive with a five-yard rushing touchdown, his first of the year, and Wilkes made it a one-score game, 14–7, as the third quarter came to a close. Both defenses controlled the game to start the final quarter. With just over six minutes left, Wilkes went for a fourth-and-two from its own 45-yard line, but Lycoming's defense made the big stop. Lycoming drove down the field, and kicker Vasco Granitto drilled a career-long 42-yard field goal with 2:52 remaining. The Colonels had first-and-goal on the ensuing possession, but a sack and fumble halted any comeback, and the Warriors held on for a 17–7 road win. Dogmanits completed 15 of 31 passes for 195 yards and added 37 yards on the ground. Linton led the Colonels with 15 carries for 54 yards and their lone touchdown. Receiver Daniel Pigga (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore) recorded five catches for sixty yards, while Fears, who had over 100 receiving yards in Wilkes' last three games, was limited to three catches for 48 yards. Defensively, linebacker Tyler Wetzel (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) led with 12 tackles, and Creswell and defensive lineman Michael Golay (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) each added two tackles for loss. Defensive back Mohamed Gueye (Jersey City, NJ/Snyder) also recovered a fumble. For Lycoming, Lyons III was efficient for Lycoming, completing 16 of 20 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns, both to Zimmerman. Zimmerman also had seven receptions for 129 yards. Running back Terrence Oliver led Lycoming with 75 rushing yards on 24 attempts. The Colonels will have a bye week before facing No. 22 Susquehanna on October 24 at 12:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
