The win handed Drew its first Landmark Conference defeat of the season, dropping the Rangers to 4–1 in the conference and 7–6 overall. Wilkes' defense also held Drew scoreless for the first time this season, and the Colonels also snapped Drew's seven-game win streak. Wilkes improves to 8–6 overall, and the Colonels enter a three-way tie for second with Catholic and Drew at 4–1 in the Landmark. Wilkes dominated the first half, outshooting Drew 12–0, including 8–0 on goal. The Colonels' first goal came at 13:28 when Lautenbacher tapped a Morgan cross that evaded multiple Rangers to find the right side of the cage, giving Wilkes a 1–0 lead after the opening period. The Colonels continued to pressure the Rangers to start the second quarter, drawing three penalty corners and two shots on goal by Maddie Karp (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area). Wilkes found its crucial second goal with 1:02 remaining in the first half when a Karp shot was deflected by the Drew goalkeeper right to Lautenbacher's stick, who fired it in for her second goal of the night and gave Wilkes a 2–0 lead at the half. After not recording a single shot in the first half, Drew came out and began to pressure the Colonels' defense, pushing the game into their half and drawing a trio of penalty corners halfway through the third quarter. However, when the Colonels finally got an opportunity, they capitalized. It came when Karp delivered a cross to Morgan, who found the back of the cage at 41:37 to extend Wilkes' lead to 3–0. Trailing by three goals, Drew was the attacker in the final period, outshooting the Colonels 6–0 and drawing seven penalty corners. However, the Colonels' defense prevented the Rangers from scoring, including a great save off the leg of Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University), as Wilkes secured the 3–0 shutout. Wilkes outshot Drew 14–10, including 10–5 on goal. The Rangers drew all 10 of their penalty corners in the second half, compared to eight for Wilkes. Karp led Wilkes with eight shots, including six on target. Gilroy earned her fourth shutout in five Landmark games, making five saves in the win. The Colonels return to Schmidt Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17, to host Goucher College at 1:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
