Men's Soccer Shuts Out Goucher 3–0 for First Win of 2026
BALTIMORE – The Wilkes University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2026 campaign with a 3–0 shutout over Goucher College on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Colonels to 1-10-2 overall, and improves to four points in Landmark Conference play at 1-4-1. Goucher drops to 3-10-2 and 0-6 in Landmark play following the defeat.
The win was the Colonels' first in 26 games, dating back to a 3–1 victory over Mitchell on Sept. 13, 2025.
Wilkes' offense started with a bang, starting with a long shot by Giovanni Mazzola (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall High School) that forced a Colonels' corner kick less than a minute in. The Colonels capitalized on the set piece when Joseph Jackson (West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin) headed the corner into the back of the net in the second minute.
The Colonels doubled their lead in the 11th minute off another Wilkes corner. This time, Lorenzo Lici (Pavullo Nel Frignano, Italy/Camp Hill) buried a right-footed shot from 12 yards out for his team-best fourth goal of the year, building a 2–0 Colonels lead. Wilkes' defense held the Gophers to just one shot on goal in the first half, which Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) easily saved. Wilkes took a 2–0 lead into the half, with both teams taking three shots, and the Colonels drawing six corner kicks to the Gophers' three.
Wilkes started the second half the exact same way it did the first: with a quick goal. A Colonels' long ball found Landon Kelly (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus Senior High School), whose shot found the bottom left corner and gave the Colonels a 3–0 lead in the 48th minute. Wilkes' defense prevented Goucher from scoring, and the navy and gold sealed the 3–0 road victory.
Both teams recorded eight shots, but the Colonels outshot Goucher 5–2 on goal. Wilkes drew eight corners to Goucher's four, while the Gophers had four yellow cards.
Lici led the Colonels with three shots, followed by Mazzola with two. Conti recorded his first clean sheet of 2026, making two saves in the win.
The Colonels make a quick trip on Wednesday to face No. 16 University of Scranton. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
