Late Goal Sends Wilkes and Scranton Women's Soccer to 1-1 Tie

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes women's soccer team scored a dramatic late goal to secure an essential 1-1 tie against the University of Scranton on Wednesday night.

The Colonels sit at 9-5-2 on the season and 3-2-2 in Landmark play, while the Royals now stand at 8-1-6 overall and 4-0-3 in the conference.

Scranton controlled much of the possession throughout the first half, creating multiple opportunities to get on the scoreboard. Despite Scranton's incessant attack, the Royals were unable to breakthrough as Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) completed three saves in the first half.

The match remained scoreless until the 64th minute when Peyton DiLello from the Royals fired a cross in front of the goal that was buried into the top corner of the net by Jenna Borelli, giving Scranton the 1-0 advantage.

A last minute attacking sequence began with a Colonels throw-in, as Sarah Straup (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) pushed the ball towards the goal and found the feet of Abby Bolz (Fair Hill, MD/Rising Sun). Bolz then hit a pristine cross to Ava Young (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), who converted the opportunity to secure the 1-1 tie.

The Royals outshot the Colonels 18-2 on the night, with Yaracs completing eight saves. Bolz and Young each recorded one shot on goal for the Colonels.

The Colonels return to Bruggeworth Field on Saturday, October 24 for a 4 p.m. start against Moravian University.
