Strong First Half Carries Field Hockey Past Lycoming 3–0

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University field hockey team scored three goals in the first 24 minutes and withstood a Lycoming offensive attack in the second half to earn a 3–0 shutout victory over the Warriors at Schmidt Stadium Tuesday night.

Tuesday marked the regular-season finale for both teams. The Colonels finish the 2026 regular season at 11-7 and 7-2 in Landmark Conference play. Wilkes' 11 wins are now the most in a season since 2016. Lycoming concludes the season at 4-12 and 1-8 in Landmark play.

All three Wilkes goals came off penalty corners, with two of them in the first six minutes. Morgan Hermanoski scored the first goal at the 4:48 mark on the Colonels' first corner of the contest. 70 seconds later, Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) tapped in a rebound from the Lycoming goalkeeper. The Colonels took 10 shots and landed nine on goal to hold a 2–0 lead after the opening period. The Colonels' third score came off another deflection by the Warriors goalie, this time by Elizabeth Hodder (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia), giving the Colonels a 3–0 lead 23 minutes in, and they maintained the margin into the half.

Lycoming controlled the third quarter, winning nine penalty corners, including six in less than two minutes in the middle of the period. However, goalkeeper Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) made three saves, and Emma Dengler (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) made a defensive save, to keep the Warriors scoreless. The Warriors drew three more corners in the final minute of the period, but the Colonels' defense held strong to keep the shutout alive heading into the final quarter. The Colonels' defense held Lycoming to just two shots to solidify the 3–0 victory.

Despite the result, Lycoming outshot the Colonels 17-16, and earning 14 penalty corners to Wilkes' eight. The Colonels outshot the Warriors 13–12 on target.

Sage Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) led the Colonels with four shots, and nine different players recorded shots for Wilkes. Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) made 11 saves in the shutout, and the Colonels allowed only five goals in nine Landmark games.

Wilkes clinched the number three seed in the Landmark Field Hockey Championship and will host sixth-seeded Susquehanna in the Colonels' first-ever Landmark Championship home game on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
