Women's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season With Defeat Against No. 9 Juniata

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team saved its toughest test for last in the 2026 season, facing off against No. 9 Juniata College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles cruised to a straight set victory over the Colonels, picking up their ninth straight win.

Wilkes finished the 2026 season at 15-13 and 3-6 in Landmark Conference play. The 15 wins by the Colonels are the most they have recorded in a season since 2019. Juniata improves to 19-4 on the season, and finishes Landmark play unblemished for the sixth consecutive year.

The Eagles showed their strength early, scoring the match's first five points and never looking back to coast to a one-sided 25–12 opening set.

The Colonels opened the second set with some solid plays, including a solo block by Emilee Atherholt (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) on a quick Juniata attack to begin the set. Wilkes stayed within striking distance, trailing 9–6, before the Eagles rallied to score nine of the next 12 points to open up an 18–9 lead. The Colonels cut the deficit to 19–12 thanks to three Juniata errors and a kill by Ava Wahlers (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport), but Juniata capped off the set scoring five straight points to secure the second set, 25–14.

Juniata controlled the third set, landing 15 kills and five aces, easily taking the set 25–14 and the straight set victory.

Atherholt led Wilkes with five kills, and Wahlers landed four kills on only six swings. Defensively, Atherholt and Mia Leon (Ponce, PR/Caribbean) both recorded a solo block, and Kendra Kalp (Somerset, PA/Rockwood) led the team with nine digs.

Juniata had 48 kills compared to the Colonels' 18, and recorded 13 aces to Wilkes' two. However, the Colonels only recorded one service error while Juniata had 14.
