Hudakova Breaks Single Season Goals Record in 9-1 Thrashing of Alvernia
WILKES-BARRE – Sophomore forward
Nina Hudakova's (Košice, Slovakia/Hoosac Prep School) 21
st goal of the season re-wrote the record books Saturday evening, setting a new single season goals record as the Colonels bested Alvernia University 9-1 at the Toyota SportsPlex.
Wilkes improves to 21-1-1 overall and remain unbeaten in 19 straight contests, with a 19-1 record in Middle Atlantic Conference play, while the Golden Wolves fall to 12-10-0 and 11-9 in MAC competition.
It didn't take long for the Colonels to get on the board, as
Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) lit the lamp just one minute and 15 seconds into the game.
Delaney Howard (Pittsburgh, PA) doubled the lead just a few minutes later, putting the nay and gold up 2-0 inside the first five minutes.
At the ten-minute mark of the period,
Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ/) and
Drew Hayhurst (Breckenridge, CO/New Hampton School) added two more goals less than 30 seconds apart to push the lead to 4-0, with
Abby Bush (Ottawa, ON) adding one more in the final minute to cap off a five-goal first period for the Colonels.
Hannah Franz (North Bay, ON/) opened the scoring in the second period at the 7:05 mark, rifling a shot past the netminder for the 6-0 lead. Howard and Pacilio then added their second goals of the day, with the latter coming on the power play, before Alvernia got on the board with a power play strike of their own to go into the third with the score 8-1.
The lone goal in the third came from Hudakova, setting the new single season goals record in the process, to give Wilkes the final scoreline of 9-1.
Howard and Pacilio led the team with two goals each, while
Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) and
Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/) were the only Colonels with multi-assist nights, contributing three helpers each. Pacilio and
Laney Harrold (Hubbardston, MA) led the team with five shots each. In net,
Audrey Milne (London, ON) made 16 saves in the victory.
Addy Gularte was the lone goalscorer for Alvernia on the day. Belle Derosiers took the loss in net with 18 saves and six goals allowed in 27 minutes of ice time. Juju Rodgers saw the game from there and made 16 saves, allowing three goals.
The Colonels hit the road for the regular season finale on Friday, February 20 as they travel to Hood College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
