Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls to Goucher 67-57 to Close The 2025-2026 Season
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Wilkes closed out the 2025-26 season Saturday afternoon with a 67-51 loss to Goucher College at the Marts Center.
The Colonels finish the year 5-20 overall and 2-16 in Landmark Conference play, while the Gophers end their season at 8-17 (4-14 Landmark).
Wilkes opened the scoring with two free throws from
Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee), but Goucher answered with a 7-0 run and carried the momentum through the first quarter, closing on a 10-4 stretch.
The Gophers extended their lead in the second, outscoring Wilkes 12-10 in the frame. The Colonels trimmed the deficit to 11 behind a Matos layup and a pair of free throws from
Anya Richet (Plymouth, PA/Wyoming Valley West), but Goucher used a late 6-2 run to take a 15-point advantage into halftime.
Goucher pushed its lead to 20 in the third before Wilkes responded with a 10-5 run. The Gophers led 53-37 heading into the final quarter. Both teams scored 14 points in the fourth to seal the 67-51 final.
Matos led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and adding 11 rebounds for her final career double-double.
Charlotte Taylor (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) added six points, while
Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and Richet each grabbed six rebounds.
