Men's Ice Hockey Falls in MAC Semi-Final Matchup Against Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Wilkes University men's ice hockey team were knocked out of the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs on Saturday afternoon, falling to Stevenson 6-2 on the road.

It was the hosts that scored the opener in the rematch of last season's MAC final. Just nine seconds into the game, Caden Smith fired home a shot to give the Mustangs the advantage. Late on in the first period, Gage Parillo doubled his team's lead at 18:54 into the opening period to make it 2-0 going into the first intermission.

Early scoring came again for Stevenson when Matt Yeager scored to make it 3-0 at 1:24 into the second period. Wilkes got on the board under two minutes later when Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA/) scored. Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO/) and Nate Terski (North Grafton, MA/) provided the assists on the play.

Stevenson would answer back to make it a 4-1 contest at 8:50 when Blake Benson lit the lamp to re-establish the hosts' lead.

In the third period, Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) found twine to make it a two-goal deficit on an unassisted play at 11:59 into the period.
Stevenson answered back once more with two goals in under three minutes. At 13:31, John

Musella made it 5-1 before the Mustangs made it a 6-2 game with a goal from Greg Spitznagel at 16:08 after he found the back of the empty net.

In goal for the Colonels, Jeffrey Fillion (Chicoutimi, QC) began between the pipes, making eight saves on 10 shots faced. Duncan Rolleman (New Hamburg, ON/) came into the game in relief, making 17 saves. Terski led Wilkes with four shots on goal, while Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) won 16 faceoffs.

For the Mustangs, Ford DeLoss stopped 30 shots, standing strong despite a high-shooting effort from Wilkes. Benson led Stevenson with seven shots on goal.

The Colonels end their season with a regular season-postseason record of 15-8-3. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 16-9-1, and move on to the MAC championship game next Saturday.
