SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Despite a strong second half performance, the Wilkes University women's basketball team was unable to best Susquehanna at O.W. Houts Gymnasium on Wednesday night, falling to the River Hawks 66-51.

Wilkes falls to 4-16 on the season with a 1-12 Landmark Conference record after the loss, while Susquehanna improves to 17-3 overall with a 10-3 mark in conference play.

The River Hawks started white hot, outscoring the Colonels in the first quarter 27-7. Delaney Moyer (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) got the second quarter started in the right way with a trey, contributing to three of Wilkes' 11 points in the quarter to go into the half down 42-18. Charlotte Taylor (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) led the team in the quarter with four points.

The Colonels found their rhythm in the third, outscoring the hosts 16-9 and going 3-6 from beyond the arc with makes by Anya Richet (Plymouth, PA/Wyoming Valley West), Dana Wartzenluft (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights), and Taylor. Wilkes outscored Susquehanna in the final frame as well (17-15), shooting over 50% from the field, but it wasn't enough to erase the first quarter deficit as they fell 66-51.

 Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) led the Colonels with 14 points, scoring nine in the fourth quarter. Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) led the team with two assists and matched Taylor and Richet with nine points. Taylor and Richet shared a team-high six assists on the night. As a team, Wilkes went 11-13 at the charity stripe on the night.

Annie Greek led all scorers with 18 points, while Julia Roth had a team-high 10 rebounds. Julia Pinckert led Susquehanna with seven assists.

Wilkes continues its five-game road swing with a trip to Juniata College on Saturday, February 7th with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
