Wilkes Men's Wrestling Extends Dual Match Win Streak to Three with 25-13 Victory Over King's
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's wrestling team extended its dual match win streak to three as the Colonels recorded a 25-13 victory over cross-town rival King's College Friday night at the Scandlon Gymnasium.
 
Wilkes improved to 7-7 overall in dual matches on the season while King's dropped to 5-8 on the year.
 
Gus Smith (Royersford, PA/Springford) put Wilkes in the lead after the opening bout at 125-pounds dominating Patrick Horvath on way to a 9-0 major decision. The lead grew to 7-0 following Connor Kerwin's (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) 13-10 decision victory over Cole Anderson at 133-pounds. Ashton Romberger (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) continued the Colonels push with another extra-point win taking an 11-0 major decision over Jacob Torres at141-pounds as Wilkes held an 11-0 advantage after three bouts.
 
King's answered back with a decision win at 149-pounds and major decision victory at 157-pounds to trim the Colonels lead to 11-7. The Monarchs made the comeback complete when Kennedy Thomas pinned Colton Thorpe (Southington, CT/Southington) in the first round at 165-pounds to put King's on top 13-11 after six bouts.
 
At 174-pounds Hunter Troutman (Valley View, PA/Tri-Valley) gave the Colonels the advantage back when he wrestled to a 7-1 decision win over Jacob Hachtmann. Lucas Miller (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) gave the Colonels some breathing room when he earned a technical fall over Jake Bobersky at 197-pounds as Wilkes led 19-13 with two bouts left.
 
Patrick Gordon III (South Riding, VA/Freedom) then clinched the match for the Colonels when he claimed a 6-3 decision over Josh Brown at 197-pounds. Trevor Gitski (Alburtis, PA/Emmaus) finished off the scoring for Wilkes with a 4-2 decision over Sam Moffett at heavyweight.
 
Wilkes remains idle until next Friday when the Colonels travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to face Ithaca College in a dual match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
