HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team opened its 2026 spring season and Spring Break trip in fine fashion posting a 7-0 sweep of Shawnee State on Sunday afternoon.
 
Wilkes opened a 1-0 lead after doubles play taking all three flights of pair play. Xavier Bleiler (Mountain Top, PA/MMI Prep) and Landon Gleichauf (Naples, NY/Naples) won 7-6 at No. 1 doubles while Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) and Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) earned a 6-1 victory at No. 2. Shawnee defaulted at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Colonels then claimed wins in all six single flights including a pair of Shawnee defaults at No. 5 and No. 6. Riley won 6-1, 1-6, 10-3 at No. 1 while Sylvester earned a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. Otarhe Okoh (Shakopee, MN/Shakopee) secured his match 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 while Gleichauf won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
 
Wilkes is back in action on Tuesday with a match against University of Dubuque starting at 5:00 p.m.
