Wilkes Baseball Bested by Arcadia
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – In a game rescheduled from the beginning of the year, the Wilkes University baseball team fell 7-0 to Arcadia University at Bruggeworth Field Monday afternoon, completing a stretch of four games in three days.
Wilkes moves to 9-6 overall with the loss, while Arcadia improves to 10-6 on the year.
The Knights jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs off Colonels starting pitcher
Wilton Abreu (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Liceo Americo Pérez Tolentino) in the top of the first inning. The visitors then added one more in the fifth and two in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-0.
Wilkes' best opportunity came in the bottom of the seventh, as
Andres Cruz (Wayne, PA/Radnor) got aboard with a single to center and
Michael Sabella (Cornelius, NC/Hough) and
Tyler Uram's (Carbondale Twp, PA/Lakeland) walks loaded the bases with two out. However,
Jeremiah Atwell's (Eastlake, OH/Willoughby South) strikeout ended the inning and kept the Colonels without a run.
The Knights scored one more in the eighth inning to seal the victory.
Cruz's single marked the lone hit for the Colonels on the day, with Abreu (0-1) given his first decision of the year with the loss. The junior pitcher went six innings allowing four earned runs and striking out two. Sal Collelo matched Abreu with two strikeouts in relief.
Dylan Rasco got the win on the mound for Arcadia, pitching 6.2 innings allowing just one hit with six strikeouts. Ryan Radigan went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday, March 25
th as they travel to face the University of Scranton in a mid-week Landmark Conference matchup. First pitch against the Royals is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
