Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Earns Second Consecutive MAC Championship with 4-0 win over Arcadia

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team earned their second Middle Atlantic Championship title in as many seasons Saturday afternoon, defeating Arcadia University at the Toyota SportsPlex 4-0.

This is the program's second conference championship in history, and will advance to the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Both goaltenders started the game in fantastic form, keeping the score 0-0 throughout the majority of the first period. First year Polina Telehina (Kyiv, Ukraine) finally broke through the Arcadia defense at 17:10 to light the lamp, going between the legs of Knights netminder Kaylee Miller after the helper from Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON/).

The Colonels carried that momentum into the second period, scoring two goals in the first 2:14 of action to blow the game open. First it was Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) just 43 seconds into the frame, poking the puck past Miller, followed by Abby Bush (Ottawa, ON) a few minutes later. In the third, Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) put the final nail in the coffin with an unassisted power play goal to seal the 4-0 victory.

Audrey Milne (London, ON) was named MAC Championship MVP after a 19-save shutout performance, including nine in the third period of play. Bouchard led the Colonels with two points on two helpers, while Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic) led all players with six shots on net.

Phoebe Roberts led the Knights with five shots on goal, while Miller made 26 saves in net for the Knights.

Wilkes now advances to the Division III National Tournament next Saturday, March 14th, with an opponent and time to be determined during the Tournament Selection Show tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m.
